My First Blog

I could remember the days when a solar powered calculator was the most amazing thing I could have even owned! I must have picked up a few new friends back then because of that one cool toy. Where are those friends, I wonder. Who knows?

Things have come a long way, haven't they? Laptops, PDA's, iPhones, Blackberries, Netbooks, iBooks...and the list goes on and on. The possibilities are endless. I've personally gone through numerous PDA's, cell phones and finally, now own a Blackberry with it's multitude of functions and applications that, for the most part, keep me connected with the rest of the world. I held out for at least 3 years before finally getting one. Now that I have one, I could kick myself. But then again, I may have learned a very valuable life lesson of delayed gratification and applied it just that once. One of my favorite applications right now is the Sherwin Williams Color Snap tool - take a picture of  a color that you find inspiring (like a flower, leaf, animal...) and it will give you a list of complimenting colors. Saved me a trip to Home Depot a few times, I'll tell ya! Designers, get it!

I learned a few days ago at a networking event  that was hosted by Dustin Griffin and Marc Fordham of  www.AtlantaREIA.com how to link a Website, FaceBook Account, FaceBook Page, YouTube Video, Photos, Bookmarks, Ads, Articles, a Tweet, a Blog and pretty much everything you have published on the Internet! Now, this group meets on the second Thursday of every month at the Ryan's Restaurant in Stockbridge, so check them out! One important thing to add is that this organization is now an Alliance Partner with the Fuller Center for Housing of Greater Atlanta, Inc. (www.atlantafullercenter.org) and hopefully with the newly founded Henry County Fuller Center for Housing, Inc. (www.projectmcdonough.com)

Now, I may not have the time to implement all the stuff  I learned about last week, but I do want to focus on a few things like upgrading my business website (www.designpartnerships.com) and keeping it REAL (Relevant, Expert, Active & Legitimate). I've also learned that while a website is static, a Blog (Web Log) can be an informative snapshot of events taking place over a smaller time frame, Face Book as dynamic as you want it to be, while a Tweet can be an instant updating of ones movements & activities. Trust me, you don't need to know what I'm doing every minute of the day! I try to take naps and get involved with unexciting things just like everyone else, I imagine. I do procrastinate, too! For example, I have a fee proposal due this afternoon and I also have to prepare for a presentation to the Kiwanis Club tomorrow about the Henry County Fuller Center projects ( and here I am blogging).

Anyway, I better get back to that Fee Proposal (residential expansion) that is now due in a few hours. For those who know me, Architecture is my true passion and I have recently found a way to use these talents to help others. Being involved with the Fuller Center for Housing of Greater Atlanta, Inc. for just over a year, has prepared me and a few of our local volunteers for something that is much bigger than  us all put together. Search for Henry County Fuller Center for Housing, Inc. on Face Book and get to meet the Board of Directors and find out how you can make a positive difference in your own community by donating  or volunteering on some of the scheduled home repair projects.

Coming Soon:
Why Architecture, Shane?
How did we end up in Henry County, GA you may ask?
Why is Fuller Center so personal to me?
